CPSC Lead Ban Forces MIC Call to Action Paul Vitrano discusses the impact of the Consumer Products Safety Commission on the sale of powersports products for children under 12. This law will effectively stop the sale of all products to this demographic until each product is tested for strict lead content maximums. The law was written to protect children from products that can be put into their mouths, typical toys and small objects, and the Motorcycle Industry Council is soliciting assistance in helping draw the distinction of how a powersports product is used, and how the targeted market is not likely to suffer from lead poisoning via powersports products, apparel and safety gear. It is estimated by the AMA that the impact of this bill will cost the powersports industry over one billion dollars — not to mention the generation of kids that will not get to ride newer and safer products.
